This issue brings us the conclusion of the Three Mysteries arc. Michael Lane completes his journey that began with his self crucifixion and...that's about it. I don't think I have ever seen so little information provided in 22 pages.
Not only are none of the questions actually answered but some of the same questions raised in the previous issues are raised again with no resolution, along with even more questions. Not even the presence of Ras Al Ghul and BOTH the Batmen could elevate the story here much. There is absolutely no light shed on why Ras is involved at all, why Azrael's sword had the effect it did on Dick Grayson, why Ras seemingly engineered Lane's suicide, why, why, why...this is an intensely frustrating experience especially in a book I have come to enjoy so much over the past few months.
Cliff Richards art is as good as it has been in the past, while it's not particularly amazing it just seems the right fit for this title. Probably the best looking panels show lane in purgatory among the bleak desolate landscapes surrounded by the dead. While this may not be a standout issue it's certainly not enough for me to give up on this unique book. Not yet anyway.
