AMS #651 is the final chapter in Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos's first 'Big Time' arc and it lives up to its name. This is an excellent issue that see's Spidey, in his spiffy new duds, teaming up with Black Cat to infiltrate Fisk Tower and retrieve the Reverbium that was stolen from Horizon labs. Of course Kingpin's newest psychotic chia pet, HobGoblin, shows up and it's goblin tech vs spidey tech in an earthshaking showdown...literally. We also get an extra special little treat in the form of a back up story by Slott featuring Mac Gargan's return to the Scorpion suit and setting up what looks to be an epic new next arc.Slott's writing is as sharp as ever, his dialogue is quick, flowing and witty. His quip happy Parker is a treat to read and a highlight of this issue is Spider-Man's one sided mocking of Hobgoblin after he disables everyone's hearing. The artwork is sublime, Ramos makes every panel pop and quite frankly his style is a breath of fresh air after the 'Origin of the Species' arc. Honestly this whole Slott/Ramos run is shaping to be a much needed kick in the ass for The Amazing Spider-Man series. It's great to see things finally looking up for the web head and the final page, without even a twinkle of red and blue, is a great way to wrap up this first arc of Parker's new life.
As I mentioned earlier we also get a back up story here, while it's not too long it does give us a nice peak at where the series is going next, with Gargan once again taking up the mantle of the Scorpion after losing the Venom symbiote. Only this time he has some nifty upgrades courtesy of his new partner. Who's that? That's something you need to find out for yourself by picking up this issue.
